Common Vaping Terms and Acronyms
Here is a list of some common vaping terms & acronyms, along with a quick description of their meaning!
Variable Wattage refers to a vape device that has an adjustable wattage mode. In a vaping context, the Wattage is basically the output power of the device - higher wattage = more (and warmer!) vape.
Variable Voltage refers to a vape device that has an adjustable voltage mode. VV is similar to VW - it allows you to control the power going through your coil. VV may be implemented as a setting on your regulated device (via the screen/buttons), or as a manual potentiometer.
Temperature Control refers to a vape device that has an ajustable temperature mode. Temp Control mode is great for users that want to avoid dry hits. Please note that TC mode is only supported on certain devices, and can only be used with specific coil types.

W or Watt
Watt is a unit of power, and essentially refers to the output power level of your vape. Typically, vapes will have a Variable Wattage mode.
V or Volt
Volt refers to the electrical potential between two points. In the vaping world, it may refer to the output power set in a Variable Voltage device, or the Voltage of a battery (e.g. a lithium-ion battery may read at 4.0 Volts).
Joule is a unit of work done in an electrical system. This is typically used for devices with a Temp Control mode, where it refers to the power output.
milliAmp-hours refers (loosely) to the capacity of a battery. Higher mAh = more capacity. Typically, vape batteries will fall into the 500mAh - 5,000mAh range.
Technically the mAh rating refers to the number of milliamps a battery can continuously supply for a 1 hour period. For example, a 3,000mAh battery could supply 3,000 milliamps continuously for 1 hour before running out of charge. That same battery could supply 1,500 milliamps for 2 hours, and so on.
A or Ampere
Ampere is a unit of power, and refers to the flow of current through a conductor (such as a wire or coil). In a vaping context, the current drawn by your coils during vaping will be measured in Amps.
Amp-hours also refers to the capacity of a battery, but measure that capacity in amps rather than milliamps. The term mAh is much more common. 1Ah = 1,000mAh.
Watt-hours are similar to the mAh or Ah ratings - this unit refers to the capacity of a battery, but is not commonly used when talking about vapes.
Technically, the Wh rating refers to the number of watts a battery can continuously supply for a 1 hour period. For example, a 10Wh battery could supply 10 watts for 1 hour.
AWG or G
American Wire Gauge refers to the thickness of wire, and is often used in the electrical industry. Just like many other American units, these are a little confusing - a lower AWG actually means a thicker wire. For example, 20AWG is thicker than 30AWG.
